Abstract

ABSTRACT

Objective: Review the literature on oral hygiene protocols in ICUs, comparing results obtained in different databases with the help of artificial intelligence (AI). The text examines the relationship between poor oral health and the worsening of the systemic condition of patients in a hospital environment, highlighting the vulnerability to infections due to the colonization of oral pathogens. Methods: reviewed confirm the importance of oral hygiene to prevent infections in hospitalized patients. Results: The results indicate the effectiveness of chemical and mechanical approaches, and the need for personalized practices. Conclusion: Future research should seek to optimize these practices and better understand their clinical impacts. AI, however, does not always distinguish between reliable sources, limiting its application in critical sectors such as dentistry.
