COGNIÇÃO SOCIAL NO AMBIENTE DE TRABALHO

Abstract

Social cognition is the human capacity to interpret social cues and understand the people around us, being widely used in social interactions. This study investigates how social cognition influences interpersonal interactions in the workplace. This is an integrative literature review that, for the search of articles, accessed the PubMed, Virtual Health Library and Scientific Electronic Library Online databases, from January 2020 to March 2025. Using the descriptors "social cognition" and "work", nine articles were selected. The studies were conducted in several countries, including Australia, China, Korea, Spain, the United States of America, Italy, the United Kingdom and Turkey, in different work environments. This study explores the influence of social cognition in different contexts, such as job retention in patients with schizophrenia, the impact of social isolation on cognition during the COVID-19 pandemic, interventions aimed at improving the employability of autistic adults, the influence of leadership on employees' environmental behavior, and the effectiveness of social cognition therapy on the occupational functioning of individuals with bipolar disorder. The findings were organized into five categories: the importance of social cognition for work; the effectiveness of interventions focused on cognitive and social skills; the influence of psychosocial and organizational conditions; the impact of external factors and social isolation; and gaps and divergent evidence regarding social cognition and work. It concludes that social cognition is a fundamental construct for the professional functioning of any person, including those with mental disorders.
