The State has a fundamental responsibility in controlling tobacco use, aiming to reduce health, social, and economic harms caused by tobacco consumption. The objective was to identify the role of the State in the planning and implementation of public policies for tobacco control. This is an integrative literature review conducted using the PiCo strategy. For evidence search, the following elements were defined: P – Public Policy, I – Public Authority, and Co – Tobacco Use. The research identified 682 potentially relevant studies in the databases. The final sample consisted of 12 articles. Actions such as tax increases, smoking bans in public places, and educational campaigns help reduce tobacco prevalence and protect public health. The State plays a crucial role in the development and implementation of public policies related to tobacco control.
