Abstract
Due to the global climate crisis, the search for sustainable consumption practices is an urgent necessity. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess sustainable action practices among Brazilian omnivores and vegetarians. This is an observational and cross-sectional study with an exploratory-descriptive character. Data were collected through an online questionnaire using a five-point Likert scale. A preliminary analysis of the items was conducted to ensure that the items designed to measure a given common construct exhibited moderate correlations among them. Once the number of factors was determined, a principal axis factor analysis was performed. Internal consistency analysis was based on the calculation of Cronbach’s alpha for each factor. Based on the factor loadings of the items and considering their content, an attempt was made to name the factors: “Concern about Companies and Labels,” “Agroecological Consumption,” and “Energy Consumption.” The results showed no significant difference between vegetarians and omnivores in the factors “Agroecological Consumption” and “Energy Consumption.” However, strict vegetarians showed greater interest in the factor “Concern about Companies and Labels,” meaning they exhibited greater concern about the environmental impact of food processing. Therefore, the results suggest the need for environmental education aimed at promoting more sustainable practices both individually and collectively.
