Abstract

This work aimed to characterize motorcycle incidents in adult patients treated at a reference hospital in the state of Pará, Brazil. This is a descriptive, exploratory study with a quantitative approach using retrospective analysis of secondary data from June 2022 to June 2023. The population consists of adult patients who were treated at the reference hospital in the state of Pará , who suffered a motorcycle incident, with a sample size of 352 patients. The data were fed into a Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS)® version 21.0 spreadsheet, using descriptive analysis, counting simple frequency and percentage, employing a Bi-variate analysis (chi-square test and Pearson correlation) . All statistical analyzes were performed using a confidence interval equal to or less than 5%. The largest number of incidents involved males (78.8%), aged between 30 and 59 years (50.3%), single people (79%). Incidents occurred more frequently in urban areas (62.6%), the majority of victims (55.8%) received prior care before being transferred to the reference hospital, and occurred more frequently on working days (57.8% ) and on the night shift (40%). Worldwide, Brazil ranks third in the number of deaths from traffic incidents, with the highest numbers being incidents involving motorcycle occupants.
