Psychoeducation as an interventional tool has an important role in disease prevention and health promotion, causing immediate and long-term repercussions in the lives of patients. The objective of this study was to discuss the use of psychoeducation as an interventional resource in the health context. To this end, the method used for data collection was through in-depth exploratory research. The data search was done through electronic publications in the Scielo, Lilacs, and Pubmed databases, and articles from periodicals pertinent to the research, in Portuguese and English, based on the descriptors Psychoeducation; Intervention and Mental Health. The study showed that psychoeducation helps the individual to develop more adaptive thoughts and behaviors about people and the world. This is related to the greater knowledge that the patient acquires about his diagnosis, symptoms, and consequences manifested in his life, also enabling more rational alternatives for coping during the crisis and treatment. In conclusion, the importance of psychoeducation as an interventional practice in the health context is revealed, both for the patient and for the health professional, standing out in interventions in diagnoses, with patients, families, and caregivers. Finally, the dynamism of the different ways of elaborating a psychoeducation allows a wide repertoire of information with different methodologies, thus reaching a larger number of people, often not contemplated in other forms of intervention.
