Dyslexia is often associated with its effect on the emotional development of children. Emotions play a significant role in all stages of life and are considered fundamental for emotional growth. It is essential for dyslexic children to develop emotional intelligence, allowing them to interpret their own emotions and understand how these emotions influence their behaviors in various situations. This article aims to address the emotional impact of dyslexia in childhood and discuss the important role of emotional intelligence in the development of dyslexic children. For this purpose, a narrative review of the literature was conducted with a qualitative approach, selecting studies relevant to the research topic. The investigation included scientific articles, books, and dissertations produced between 1990 and 2021. The studied articles indicated that emotional intelligence can play a protective role against emotional issues caused by the difficulties arising from dyslexia. It was concluded that interventions with dyslexic children should include the development of emotional intelligence to assist in healthy emotional growth.
